Does the song have to be from Hair? If not, I would try "Someone Like You" from Jekyll and Hyde, but take it in the tenor octave. It really shows the top of your range well and you can show a real powerful voice when you sing it.

Jesus Christ Superstar from same show, Look at the Lead Player tunes from Pippin all of them are great for an audition like this. Look at a few of Che's songs in 'Evita' and see what they do for you, they're a little weedy sometimes but worth listening.

If you've got so little time please take a listen to the Lead Player stuff from Pippin and also the music from Superstar (anything Jesus or Judas sings) Ohhhh, Heaven on their Minds from JCS is great too (listen to the 'brown album' it's the best) Hope one of these works

i can sing low but sometimes ill go really low and i'll just break out into this yawn lol, i dont really want this happening if i ever perform because that would be emabressing.

why does this happen and how can i prevent it??
Why is it that when i sing low notes i end up yawning?
When you sing air pushes against your vocal cords making them vibrate. When you yawn its your bodies way of getting more air. So what seems like is happening is when you are going for lower notes you are tightening and restricting your bodies air flow so you yawn in order to open that back up. Make sure you are keeping your chest cavity open, and you are drooping your belly when you sing.

yer tongue ring doesn`t make any difference..it sounds like u have a cold..but if this is a natural thing with your voice..try something other than singing..if u r light-headed it`s cuz yer breathing too hard..relax and be careful of hyper-ventilation

Reply:Well, I used to sing through my nose all the time. The way i learned not to sing through my nose is when I would sing i held my nose. If no sound or very minimal sound came out I knew that I was trying to sing through my nose. After a while of practice like that I could sing properly. I stopped having to hold my nose when I was 9 years old. I'm now 15. Whatever age you are you can learn to sing properly
Reply:yes the holding ur nose thing is good, but the m's and n's are naturally nasal tones. u can't say or sing mmmmm or nnnnn with ur nose plugged. so i wish u luck!!! also there are books out there that can help u learn techniques. if ur local library has an online website go into the catalog, type in singing, and make sure it's subject not title. ne wayz hope i helped!! best of luck!!
Reply:Samlax is absolutely correct with the 'holding the nose' technique.

Amazing how it changes everything. I would further recommend that you find a good voice teacher/coach. They can better diagnose what is actually happening and find exercises that will help fix the problem. Yes, you can sing n and m's in the nose holding technique you to have to make them very light. There is a balance between attacking diction and proper diction.

You also should find out if you have allergies and if your adenoids are actually causing problems with your voice (sounds like they are) See a good ENT. Also, when you are breathing correctly for the first time, you probably will feel lightheadness. Normal and it goes away.

Most cowboys use trucks because it makes the most sense when you are on a farm, or out in the country. The reality is that most of the country singers did at some point, ride horses, work on a farm, or frequented rodeo's. trucks are necessary for that lifestyle, just like a "pimp ride" is for a rap artist. They sing about their car like all other artists do.

this is almost funny how bad it turned out. so i was almost late for class today and there were only a few seats left and i wanted to sit to this girl who is an acquaintance who i like but figured i probably shouldnt because she usully sits next to the boyfriend and the boyfriend wasnt there yet so i sat next to someone else. so as class went on she kept giving me these wierd looks and i didnt know why, maybe i thought because i didint move seats when the boyfriend didnt show up. but i was in such a rush in the morning that i didnt even realize that i was sitting next to the boyfriend the whole time, who was sitting with other friends. and the worst part was i relazied there were two seats when i went in, one next to her the other next to the boyfriend. i honestly thought it was some other kid. haha im not too worried about it they both like me im sure it will blow over but has anything like that ever happened to you?

I explained how bad the roads where and he even knew himself, and still yelled at me. That's what I get for trying to do a good thing and come to work when no one else would. What really upsets me is that he knew how bad the driving conditions were the first time I called, before I left home, and he knows I'm pregnant! Needless to say I got kicked in the @ss for trying to do a good thing. So I know what you are saying.

when you swallow, your larynx will go up. In that upper position, you cannot make a sound. INvoluntarily, when you sing higher it goes up too. that constricts air flow.

Where's a good campground in the Wisconsin Dells to stay up late singing songs by the fire?
Great question! Most of the campgrounds in the Dells cater to a family environment and most will allow you to rent a space with a fire pit, but not usually next to the woods. A good number of the strip-located ones like Bonanza and Yogi Bear's are usually pretty filled during most Summer weekends. So, if you are looking for some privacy, that may not be the option.

As for the social-scene, I can vouche for Bonanza having one. But again, it is a family-orientated campground.

Another great option that I did not think of initially is the Edge of the Dells campground! They have an on-site bar, and tons of entertainment! Definitely worth a visit to their website.

All the songs have high notes since I'm not a good singer.

My neck gets too much pressure and then I can sing high notes.

But after about 30 mins, I feel like throwing up and can't sing

high notes anymore.

But if I try to sing the notes lower, I feel like I won't improve

and it's really boring like reading books.

you're putting too much tension on the delicate mechanism in your throat, and not half enough on the big breathing muscles at the bottom of your rib cage.

Find out how to re-adjust the balance between lots of energy in the breathing muscles, and very little stress in the throat.

singing low can be exciting ( as can reading!) if it's done right.

Reply:Many celebrities (Kanye West and Michael Moore, notably, in addition to the Chicks) use their fame to promote their political beliefs. It's almost to the point where you aren't just allowed to be a fan of a person's body of work - you must also back their platforms.

I respond by not financially contributing to those celebrities that are the most vocal in their politics (whether I believe in what they're saying or not) by not buying their music, going to their films, or whatnot. If they want to be in politics, they should run for office, not record albums.

And a note about Toby Keith, in response to the message above: I haven't heard as much publicity about him because I think country music sucks donkey cojones, but he and Rick Schroeder should stick to what they know best also.

I have been a professional singer for 10+ years. The best answer is to just start singing! Sing anywhere and everywhere you can.

1. Get lessons, sure you have natural ability, but even the pros have to get lessons. for technique, vocal health etc...singing in your living room with a cheap karoake amchine is one thing. Singing 7 nights a week on tour in front of hundreds is another.

2. Determine what style of music you want to sing, this will change the direction and where you perform.

3. Enter talent shows...every town has them..just ask around.

4. Write your own songs,...

5. Make a demo..you will need something that people can pass around...

6. Create a promo kit, usually consists of a photo, Cd, and a bio of yourself.

well sweetie , One of the first things a good vocal coach will tell you is to relax your jaw. It will greatly improve your tonality. You also need to remember to keep the back of your throat open wide - kind of like it feels when you're yawning. When you raise your eyebrows, sometimes it helps open up the back of your throat. It sounds like a lot to remember, but after you train yourself, you will do all this automatically without even thinking about it.

The best technique I've heard to improve range is to imagine your vocal range as an elevator. The lower notes are down in your chest and those higher notes are at the top of your head. When you're trying to reach that upper range, shoot your "elevator" through the roof. I've tried this many times when there is a note I just can't reach and it works!

Singing is largely about visualization...or should I say 'audiolization'? You have to know what you want to sound like...and then you have to try to emulate exactly what you are hearing. Don't expect to get runs and frills like Mariah Carey right away. Find artists that match your range to practice and don't strain yourself trying to sing something way out of your range or capability. The better you get, the more things you will find you can sing that you never thought you'd be able to.

Breathing is of vital importance. Up until I was about 24, I thought I was a soprano. I always sang in my "head voice" in this light, airy soprano and would get light-headed every time I tried the breathing techniques everyone told me about. I finally started singing in a voice closer to my natural speaking voice...singing from the back of my throat. I found this to be MUCH more natural and I was able to sound more like the artists on the radio. Try altering between soprano and singing in your natural voice. Eventually, you will be able to shift seamlessly between the two. I often run scales from my natural voice all the way into my head voice.

As far as what to drink, etc. Everyone seems to have their own remedy. I find coffee and warm drinks relax my vocal chords and my voice is much better. Some swear by tea and honey. Some people say gargling salt water (which makes me want to vomit! Ick!). I heard another singer once swear she drinks Coke before every performance and I've heard others say that soda, caffeine, cigarette smoke, etc. will damage your vocal chords. In the end, it all comes down to what works for YOU. The only proven destroyer of vocal chords is constant untrained shouting and lack of rest for your pipes.

Practice, visualize your dream voice, and don't be afraid to practice parts you can't "get" over and over and eventually you will get better control - You'll find that a lot of "control" has to do with diaphragm breathing, the shape of the back of your throat, and the way you are visualizing the sound. I truly believe just about anyone can learn to sing so don't give up. -B-
Reply:Scales work. If you do enough scales, you will eventually be able to hear a note and know what note is is. You'll also be able to tell when people are flat or sharp (though in my experience, people off key are almost always flat).

Do chromatic scales, jumping scales, all sorts of stuff. Work on your music theory also.

And remember some people are better singers than others, but as long as you feel the music, and make it heartfelt, you'll always be good (Look at Louis Armstrong and Janis Joplin).

Lastly, just so you know, its tone deaf. As in you cannot hear different tones. 8*)
Reply:If you're tone deaf, you may want to address this issue before hoping for any solos. No "warming up" will fix this. One CAN practice pitch matching, etc, but if you are truly tone deaf (i.e. can't tell the difference between to notes when they are played for you) then you might want to change your ambitions.

This didn't used to happen until I started concentrating on my vocals. I sometimes sound flat, and when I pick up the note higher it sounds too high. It seems like I have been getting worse at singing ever since I started. Any tips?

Hello! =)

I would advise not trying to sing higher or lower than you can comfortably. You can work on the higher notes by singing scales or singing softly in a comfortable manner. The secret is to work on the high notes that are most comfortable for you so that you open up the notes above it. Eventually, a few notes will get easier and easier to sing and you'll be able to sing higher!

Try not to strain, because that creates poor neuromuscular memory. If you strain for the high notes, after a while your body starts thinking that's what it needs to do when you go higher. You don't want to start making bad habits, and you want to create new good habits =)

Scales are great for your voice, they don't even have to be overly complex, just fun and all jumpy. Just make sure you don't strain or reach for the higher notes, they will come with time. Doing this has helped me with my range, and I have added over an octave to my range in about six months. Simply vocalizing and singing throughout your range also helps your notes sound better on pitch.

Alright, we all know we can't sing as soon as we wake up. And after about two hours I wake up, my vocal cords has finally waken up as well, and I can feel it better. But when I try to sing, I can't really control my vibrato...it comes and goes like that. But after about 6 hours I start singing, I can control my vibrato really well and also can change dynamics a lot better. And about 7~8 hours I start singing, my voice sounds really beautiful and my vibrato is constant. And by the way, I did this experiment by waking up and not singing a note at all until 6 hours after wake up time, or 8 hours after wake up time. So I have not warmed up my voice at all...except for maybe talking.

If I had to wait 7 to 8 hours to sing to sound great, I would be in TROUBLE. I've had performances that call me to sing as early as 8:30 in the morning, and singing opera/classical music takes more energy and range than many vocal genres out there. You have got to learn how to function as a singer everyday to learn how to sound beautiful from the morning to the night. You will only limit yourself as a singer if you think we have to wait that long to sing well!!

How do you warm up when you sing? Do you warm up at all? You must vocalize your COMPLETE range everyday in order to be vocally prepared for anything. You shouldn't sing a note until you vocalize. Some people take up to 10 minutes for vocalization to feel warmed up. Singers need to be warmed up just like athletes. You will never see a sprinter just start running without warming up and stretching. Singers are the same way. Vocalize with CORRECT diaphragmatic breathing technique. Learn how to relax your entire body and release the tension from your neck, shoulders, etc. Don't overwork the body when you sing. Perhaps the reason you feel vocally free as the day progresses, is because your body is more relaxed and you have talked more. The body is totally connected with singing. The more relaxed you are, the easier it is to sing.

Controlling ones vibrato also has nothing to do with the time of day. I can handle my vibrato any time of day. This comes from practice and knowledge about how my body works when I sing. I would suggest seeking a professional voice teacher or someone who has knowledge of the voice to show you how to improve your vocal ability throughout the day. A real singer can sing anytime of the day because they know what they are doing, and the know how to vocalize correctly to get full use of their range. Reply:If you haven't warmed up your vocal cords there are things to do. Rinse your mouth and gargle warm water, maybe even have a cup of tea of something. Cold water will restrict your vocal cords and take them longer to warm up. Then do some scales and practice exercises for thirty minutes. Eventually your voice will get used to the routine you give it.

The hadith that "me" is talking about does not even mention any meals, it talks about water and how even the water shows how glorified Allah is and even the water praises Allah. The hadith is that Muhammad SAW was travelling with some of his companions and they got near a stream and went to drink water from there, and Muhammad SAW made them realize how even water shows the greatness of Allah.

In short there aren't any hadiths about food singing and dancing, just how even food can make you realize the greatness of Allah.

I already had a sore throat to begin with, so I maybe I shouldn't have tried to sing, expecially this particular song. It was Nemesis by Arch Enemy. I went through it three times, really pushing myself, and after the third time my throat was really sore, and then I spit up a little bit of blood. I just wondered if this is normal for someone who is just starting to get used to singing this kind of music, or if I just went to far and hurt myself.

Reply:Spitting up blood is never a good thing. I'd rest up, drink lots of warm tea and let your throat heal itself. When youre absolutely positive its gone you can sing again. But just like with any other muscle your throat needs to "stretch" and work its way up to such a strong piece. Try singing excises before you sing and dont push yourself too much the first time. After a while you'll feel yourself getting stronger. Remember singing should never hurt %26amp; it should feel easier than yelling so if there is any discomfort you should rest up immediately.

Here's are some possibitlites: you may have just irritated your vocal chords or your throat and the blood could be coming from there. Having an ulcer can cause you to spit up blood and so can acid reflux disease. I agree with everyone else - it is time to see a a doctor! Hopefully it is nothing, but if it is something serious, it should be treated before it gets worse.

Well, if you just sing it to people and don't try to sell it, it is okay.

But if you use exact or almost exact (off by a few notes) notes then you will be in trouble. Of course you can only do this if you are not selling it. No trouble as long as you don't sell it.

If you change it up a bit and don't use the same tune too much then you can do what you want with it.

Why do you want her to be a star? if she is a kid, let her be a kid! If she is an adult, let her make her own choices. Why can't your daughter be good enough as she is?
Reply:This is my "been there, done that" and "been there, should have done that" list for anyone who wants to be in the performing arts.

For the Performer:

* Memorize at least three good monologues, ones you like and ones that aren't from famous plays or movies.

* Never, ever, ever audition with a song from Les Miz, Phantom, Rent, Chicago, or Cats. People who cast shows are sick of well-known songs and will reject you right away.

* Take voice lessons or at least sing in the school choir.

* Songs... Are a little harder to find. Ask your choir director or voice teacher for suggestions, as they know your range better than I do.

* Take dancing lessons, or at least practice a lot when you're in a play. On a related note, buy a pair of Character Shoes: http://www.discountdance.com/frame_set.p... Yes, it must be closed toe and it must have an ankle strap. You'll understand why those are important when you note that they don't fall off your feet. :)

* Take every role you're cast in during High School, even if it's "just" the Chorus. You'll learn.

* Be a Stage Manager, at least once.

* Learn everything you can about Lighting and Set Design. That way, even if you don't get a part, you can learn by watching the other actors and learn a valuable skill you may very well learn to love more than acting. There is more demand for Lighting Techs than there is for Actors, after all!

* "Acting Schools" are often overrated and overpriced. If you want the best that Michigan has to offer, go to Alma College. The faculty there is top-notch and class sizes are small enough so that you'll be able to get involved easily.

* No matter where you go, audition for a scholarship to help defray your tuition bill.

* Start a savings account now. Put at least $20 into it from every pay check. Do NOT dip into it for anything that is not an emergency. Spring Break is not an emergency.

* Double major in something that will help you pay your bills. You should not have to rely on acting to feed yourself. It doesn't work.

* Get a job waiting tables while you're still in high school, so you'll be an experienced server in college and after. It's the easiest way to make a decent bit of money in the mornings while you're not in rehearsals. You'll get the most tips on Sunday morning, so don't pass up working Sunday morning so you can stay out late Saturday night.

Most importantly:

You cannot afford to have an ego. Actresses are as common as oxygen. Do not think you are talented. You are a beginner. Talent is merely a matter of hard work and a willingness to let go of your pride and let yourself relax on stage and be in the moment.

Tips for Mom:

* When you take your daughter to an audition, sit in the back and be quietly supportive. "Hi, I'm %26lt;Name%26gt;'s Mom, %26lt;Your Name%26gt;" should be all you need to say, unless the director has questions. Mom talking too much at Auditions almost always makes a bad impression.

* If your daughter wants to audition without you, let her--though this probably won't happen. Yeah, it's hard, but she'll do a better job if she feels more relaxed.

* Don't be upset if she doesn't get a lead role with the first company she works with. A lot of times they cast new people in small roles or a chorus just to see if that person is reliable.

* Don't be upset if she gets small roles. It's vital to have good people in small roles, and some of the most memorable performances of all time are by "Character Actors" who have small parts. Think about Tuptim in "The King and I." It's a small but marvelous role. And the murderesses in "Chicago."

* If you need to drive her places, *never* be late. Be 10 minutes early.

* Volunteer to help with costuming, set design at Auditions for Community Theater, especially if you're going to be driving her. Make the offer to the High School director and to the Community group (again) when she's cast. You're already driving there, you might as well have fun and your being useful makes your daughter a more useful person to have around.

* If you help with costuming, don't just work on your daughter's stuff. Helping more people makes you more useful, and thus your daughter is more useful.

* If she wants to pursue the performance arts in college, start assisting her with college applications the fall before she goes, and auditions for scholarships are typically around February.
Reply:usually in newspapers and magazines there are ads of directors and producers looking for an actress. make sure your daughter wants to be a star though, because she won't have fun at all if it's not what she really wants to do.

there are also lots of agents out there. try and start with something small, such as being on a commercial. then she will gradually grow into the environment of being famous.

Reply:Don't sing Popular or Girl in 14G. Horribly overdone both of them - and Popular isn't an easy song anyway. I'd be looking at another Harold Arlen song (he wrote the music for The Wizard of Oz); he wrote a lot of lovely songs. Here are a few:

hunny... you can't be a singer if you are afraid to sing in front of people! maybe you should record yourself and listen... if your good, try gaining your confidence! When you sing in front of people, just pretend they aren't there and just have fun. thats how i did it, and it worked!

once you have gained your confidence in singing, try out for american idol or something like that. you could be big!

That way when you audition, you may get a part with a small singing part and you will be able to sing in front of an audience with just a line or so...to boost your confidence. After that audition for a bigger singing role.
Reply:Recording a professional CD is expensive and time consuming. And record companies don't even bother listening to them. Dear, you can either sing or you can't, and if you are that unsure of your voice and singing in front of others, my guess is you are not that good. If you were, you would be belting out songs one after the other to anyone who would listen. Trust me on this one.

I know it's hard to build your confidence up, especially in front of forty people. I would first gather around some of your friends and family and sing in front of them. When you hear what they have to say about your singing, your confidence will be boosted. Try singing in front of a small crowd, and slowly make your way up to forty people. Remember, the people who are watching you sing are interested in your, or they would not be there listening to you. Good Luck!

Try to make a habit of getting up every morning, looking yourself in the mirror and doing some affirmations. Also when you get on stage, make sure in your mind you put up a "4th wall" which would basically be where the end of the stage facing the audience is. I find that the glare of the lights at the end of the stage makes it easier to put up the 4th wall. And them you just don't look past that 4th wall or even acknowledge to yourself that there is anyone there. You will be fine.
Reply:Are you a good singer? Somebody must think so otherwise you wouldn't be planning to get up in front of forty people and sing. I don't think not caring what they think is the best approach. Of course you want them to enjoy your singing and think you're wonderful So focus on what you want. Don't think about what can go wrong; just focus on how much you love to sing and share that love with the audience Make them feel what you feel. Audiences want to feel good; just give them chance to feel good about your singing.
