How do you find forclosed properties in illinois without singing up for those pricey web sites?

I agree those websites are just a rip off. If you are willing to put a little effort into you search here are a few suggestions.

Go to HUD.Gov ---- this site will give all the HUD homes that are available.

Next contact your local banks in the area, etc and ask who you would need to contact to obtain the list of homes that they have available that have been foreclosed on they should refer you to the loss mitigation person or sometimes they are call Asset Manager's. These individuals are the ones that can assist.

The other source is go down to your county recorder or tax assessor office and start looking up individual that are behind on property taxes.

Using a real estate agent, can cut through all the above, they are equipped with all this info and can help with understanding the process, of purchasing a home that is being foreclosured on or has been foreclosured.

Trulia just recently started providing this information for free on their website.

If you go to www.trulia.com you can search for whatever area you are interested in. When the results pop up there will a be a toolbar to the left that lets you narrow down your search results. One of these options is "Foreclosures." You can browse through them once you've selected this option. They also just offered up an option to search for "Open Houses," which I thought was cool.

Here is a sample search for Springfield, IL:
