Why did Frank Sinatra say this about Elvis and then end up sing with him on his show ?

Ok I got this from wikipedia :

Even Frank Sinatra opined: "His kind of music is deplorable, a rancid smelling aphrodisiac. It fosters almost totally negative and destructive reactions in young people."[109] Presley responded to this (and other derogatory comments Sinatra made) by saying: "I admire the man. He has a right to say what he wants to say. He is a great success and a fine actor, but I think he shouldn't have said it... This ... [rock and roll] ... is a trend, just the same as he faced when he started years ago

If Frank Sinatra though Elvis' music was so "deplorable" then why did he sing with him on his show ?

oohh gee Do you think they may have had a heart to heart behind the scenes. After all I think Sinatra was talking about the music genre itself and as "Dr W" said, Sinatra had a similar experience when he was starting out.

So they must have said to each other :

"whatsamatter, put it under the carpet and no more talk about that; it's not why we are here. We are here to entertain people aren't we ?!...so let's get on with it."
Reply:Thank you so much for this BA !

Reply:Sinatra was probably referring to rock and roll in general, he didn't care for it.

And of course he's going to perform with him,,,turning down a chance to perform with Elvis Presley would be like someone refusing to perform with,,,Frank Sinatra.

Interesting bit of trivia, Frank Sinatra considered "Strangers in the Night", his biggest hit, to be the "worst piece of **** song I've ever heard".
Reply:people can and do change their minds.example, when i first worked with this guy called bill,i hated him.we eventually both quit.i met bill again 11 years later, ran into him in a coffee shop.u guessed it-a year later,i married bill.if u had heard the way i laughed at him the first time we met,u never would have thought he'd be my beloved husband one day.people change, opinions change.
Reply:He changed his mind.
Reply:fame and money, he wanted to be associated with a famous personality even though he was one himself, Elvis was new, fresh and hot and he wanted to be seen with him.
Reply:If I remember correctly, Frank was criticized early in his career for having negative effects on young people, particularly girls, when they would swoon as he sang in concerns.
Reply:Because it finally dawned on him Elvis was here to stay so it's was like the saying goes, "If you can't beat them, join them."

Reply:show business...it made money, do you think he liked everyone he performed with?
Reply:Anything for publicity.
Reply:But fame is fun.

And because it's true.

o_O?
Reply:Sinatra's daughter became a big rock star in the 60's so I guess he had to eat a little crow.
Reply:He got paid well to do it.
Reply:I heard about that too a while ago and I thought the same thing. When they sang together they seemed like they got along good. I have no idea why he said that. What Elvis said was good though. I guess Frank just sang with him because he got payed a lot too. I've heard something about Elvis dating Nancy Sinatra for a while. I don't know if I have that right though. Here's some pictures of Elvis and Frank together.
